Move over Howard Hawks! Lucas Bernard‘s second feature is a fast-talking screwball romp that zigzags across the globe and under the seas, following the vehemently non-romantic shenanigans of a happy-go-lucky flight steward and an intransigent tactical submarine officer. Ever-fearless when it comes to comedy, Pio Marmaï turns in his best Cary Grant charmer as the womanizing steward, and Eye Haïdara is a modern-day Rosalind Russel, intent on safeguarding her career-gal status, in this fresh take on a breathless – and very funny – good old-fashioned romantic comedy.
Writer-director Lucas Bernard began his career in various camera department positions, served as cinematographer on several shorts, and was director of photography on René Féret’s feature film Anton Chekhov 1890 (2015). In 2009, he wrote the script for Stéphanie De Fenn’s short Canicule de cheval, and in 2013, wrote and directed the short film, La Place du Mort. His first feature, A Clever Crook (2017) was a breezy old-school caper starring Charles Berling and Swann Arlaud. In the Sub for Love will premiere at TAFFF before its release in France.
