Fate has dealt Nicole a lousy hand. She’s worked her whole life and has nothing to show for it. She’s unemployed and can’t find a job. A single mother, she lives with her teenage son in a dismal low-income housing project on the outskirts of Paris, where she’s ill at ease and has no friends. As if that weren’t enough, she’s now called in to meet with her banker. Saddled with skyrocketing credit card debt, she’s forced to hand over her checkbook and debit card on the spot, just a few days before Christmas… a turn of events that leads to decisions that don’t necessarily make for the happiest of holidays. In Nicole’s mind, she’s hopeless, a major screw-up. But sometimes you can find meaning in life right in your own backyard. Sometimes you have to reach out and make your own happiness.

Morgan Simon studied screenwriting at La Fémis film school in Paris. He has written and directed numerous shorts and music videos, and his film Try To Die Young (2014) was nominated for a César Award for Best Short Film. His first feature, A Taste of Ink was developed at L’Atelier de la Cinéfondation in Cannes and at the Jerusalem International Film Lab. It premiered in the New Directors section of the San Sébastien Film Festival, where it was awarded by a special jury mention, and went on to be screened and honored at numerous festivals worldwide, including COLCOA in 2017. In 2018, he was selected as a member of the Queer Palm jury in Cannes. And his short film Ghost Pleasure (2019) premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival. Last but not least, Somewhere in love was selected this year at the Angouleme francophone film Festival.
