Based on the Alexandre Dumas classic, the first installment of Martin Bourboulon‘s star-studded two-part screen adaptation is a swashbuckling romp with a few modern twists. Here, the ever-delightful François Civil stars as D’Artagnan, a young swordsman who travels to Paris from the provinces with a dream of becoming a prestigious musketeer. Awkwardly insulting the king’s three veteran musketeers — Athos, Porthos and Aramis — en route, he suddenly finds himself in a dual with all three simultaneously… Until the enemies become fast friends and join forces to fight off a whole string of bad guys who are in cahoots to undermine the monarchy. The film was a critical and box-office triumph when it opened theatrically in France in April 2023.
