Synopsis
August 15, 2021. American troops are pulling out of Afghanistan. Taliban insurgents are in the process of seizing Kabul. The French Embassy is preparing to evacuate… when commander Mohamed Bida takes in 500 refugees seeking asylum. Determined to save every life, he hatches a plan to transport the group to the airport. What ensues is a grueling 13-day race against time, amidst the utter pandemonium all around them, before the Taliban closes in. Martin Bourboulon is back with another action-packed, big-budget crowd-pleaser, adapted from Mohamed Bida’s memoir recounting how ten police officers, left to their own devices and risking their own lives, courageously led those stranded masses to freedom.
Director’s biography
The son of French producer Frédéric Bourboulon, Martin Bourboulon directed his first short film, Sale Hasard, in 2007. He went on to direct the TV series Une journée dehouf (2005) and numerous commercials. He made his foray into feature films with the wildly popular Daddy or Mommy (2015) and its sequel, Divorce French Style (2016). Those were followed by Eiffel (COLCOA 2021), mega-hit The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan (TAFFF 2023), and its follow-up, The Three Musketeers: Milady (2024), as well as three episodes of Apple TV’s ambitious historical series, Carème (2025). 13 Days 13 Nights premiered Out of Competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and will be released in the US in 2026.
