Anthony is a struggling handyman who lives in a working-class housing project. Spoiled rich kid Grégoire has studied at Berkeley and Oxford and has now returned to his hometown of Angoulême to run for public office. To everyone’s great surprise, the two young men, who couldn’t possibly be more different, turn out to have identical DNA profiles… In fact, they’re twins! No one is more surprised by that news than the twins themselves. Oh, and by the way, Anthony is Black and Grégoire is white. It’s a genetic phenomenon with a one-in-a-million chance of occurring. Once they get past the initial shock… how can they begin to deal with such a situation? How could this have even happened? Two of a Kind and its two engaging leads take that high-concept premise, breathe life into it and take us on an amusing, and ultimately quite moving, ride… one that actually leads to becoming a true family.
Olivier Ducray began his career in program acquisitions for the Comédie channel, and worked as a film programmer for Mars Distribution and Studio Canal. He has written and directed four short films since 2011, including Mustang Sally (2014), which won the 48 Hour Film Project in Geneva. He co-wrote Ludovic Bernard’s comedy feature, The Climb (2017), which won the Grand Prize and the Audience Award at the Alpe d’Huez Comedy Film Festival. Ducray also directed two documentary features, La Vie des gens (2015) and Derniers jours d’un médecin de campagne (2019). Wilfried Méance wrote and directed seven short films on his own, several of them selected at COLCOA, before teaming up with Ducray to co-write and co-direct their last short, Mon p’tit Bernard (2019). Two of a Kind is their first narrative feature and it brings together two very talented up-and-coming actors on the French scene: Ahmed Sylla, who also appears in this year’s festival line-up in Léonor Serraile’s Mother and Sons, and actor/comedian Bertrand Usclat. Two of a Kind won the Audience Award at this year’s Alpe d’Huez International Comedy Film Festival and was released in France on September 28.
